Hi Deep South SG!
I’m sure that it is listed in this forum somewhere, but I have not located a thread or link to a description of the stargaze? I am just getting started in AP and have never attended a star party or stargaze before and really have little idea what to expect. Are the attendees assigned a piece of real estate? Or, do you show up and set up? Is there electrical power available? Would I need an extension cord? Can I set up a tent in the same place that I set up my scope?
I’m sure that I will have a few more, but if you could point me to some information, thanks a bunch!

Check out Barry's posts in the Deep South Star Gaze forum. He covers a lot of this, but briefly: - No assignments on the field, first-come, first-serve. However there are guidelines in certain areas how (large) you set up, due to available space, reserved areas for driving, etc.
- There is some power available, but it's far from universal. Plus, the capacity isn't limitless. You'll definitely need an extension cord. We'll get more of a real world sense for the power as more folks show up and start using it. But to avoid problems, plan on being battery-powered by default, with AC power a bonus if available.
- I can't remember the specific rules offhand, but you can set up a tent in most areas, although inside the riding area space is allocated per attendee, so there's more of a limit. There are also specific places for vehicles vs. tents / canopies vs. scopes.
Once again, read the documentation, as it were.

I will be going up to White Horse at least one more time before the DSSG to inventory our electrical outlets (30 amp outlets are reserved for rv's and campers). Outlets with less capacity may become overloaded so as Len said, it is better to have battery power to use. Also - never, ever bring a home hair dryer for dew control, they draw way too much juice. There are dryers specifically for telescopes, basically dryers used in snowy areas to de-ice windshields. You will not want to face the wrath of possib Add Attachmently dozens of people if you trip a circuit. Runs from the nearest plugs may measure in the 100's of feet. This is the first DSSG at White Horse, so it is, of sorts a shake down cruise and we will have some issues to deal with as this location is new to us. I want to minimize problems as much as I can. If anyone has questions, please continue to ask, and if I need to get answers I will try my best to get them. We do have observing field rules. I will see if I have already posted that, if I have not I will add them as a separate post in the area specific to the Deep South Star Gaze. Barry Simon
