Ron Marcella, Walter Sarrat and I went up to White Horse today to check out a few things and to drop off some of the door prizes.
One of the things that I needed to check out was the specific location of each bunk house and the capacity of each, as well as the specifics as to the bathroom locations and capacities. One of the things that we will have to do, non-negotiable is to only open a new bunk room area after the one already opened becomes full. Here are the specifics on the bunk locations.
1) Main Bldg. Bunkhouse - small bunk room with 3 bunk assemblies (3 tall) plus a loft that can sleep several more. (This has appeal to kids). This bunk room also has a bathroom with 1 shower, 1 face bowl, and 1 toilet. It is very conveniently located.
2) Free Standing Bunkhouse - has two separate rooms separated by a large bathroom. Each room in this bunkhouse has 7 bunk bed assemblies, so 14 in all. Between the two rooms is a bathroom with 3 toilets, 3 showers and 3 face bowls. This is the building where most of us stayed when we did the "Trial Run" back in August. This will be the building that we will fill first, so it will have those staying at least 4 nights and likely 5 nights.
3) Multiple bunk rooms on the northeast side of the large arena/barn bldg. In this area are some separate bunk rooms with two of them having 5 bunk bed assemblies each (remember that each assembly could technically sleep 3, but we will try to hold it to one person per bunk unless shared by mutual consent. People in these rooms will have to go to the separate free standing bathhouse for a shower, toilet or face bowl. The bath house has two sides with each side having 3 of everything .
4) There is a smaller room here that has 2 bunk bed assemblies plus a 1/2 bath with a toilet and face bowl. This room will be reserved for the couple that registers for 5 nights or comes closest to that. Whoever is here will have to use the bath house for a shower.
5) Further up toward the front of the large arena/barn bldg. or an additional two rooms that connect. In the eastern most room (toward the back) there are 4 bunk bed assemblies, and in the western most room there are 5 bunk bed assemblies. These two rooms share 1 shower, 1 toilet and 3 face bowls. (Most will elect to use the bath house.
So that is it in respect to bunk assemblies - we have a total of 38 assemblies. In some instances we will have more than one person per assembly (father and child, mother and child, a couple, etc., but that will be rare.
As said so many times before, more nights work in your favor and earlier registrations take precedent over later registrations, though a later registration for more nights will take precedent over one with fewer nights. No issue yet, but do not wait too long to register.
Regarding the outside arena field (fenced oval area) where we set up for the Trial Run, working with the dimensions, we will have room in this area for approximately 20 vehicles with associated canopies and telescopes with adequate space to move in and out and including a central corridor. On the north side of this area cars will park in the traditional way, facing in or out toward the center of the long axis of the field. On the south side, due to the fact that the "beam" of this field is just 130 feet across, cars will be parallel parked (tentative plan). As I said before, I anticipate that this field will be filled by late morning or early afternoon on Wednesday. No worries, as we still have plenty of good spaces to set up on the property, that is one of the strengths of this location.
Electricity. We looked at availability again and I believe we will be fine. It is best however to be prepared and if you can operate independently of AC power by using batteries, that would be wise. Remember - no home hair dryers - they pull too much amperage and will trip circuits as we will be branching out from several outlets - plenty of scopes needing power will be fine. Bring your own long outdoor extension cords, but leave your wife's hair dryer at home.
Questions, please ask!
