Headcount - counting a few that I know are in the mail, our headcount is now up to 41. Pretty good all things considered. I will be out of town for a few days so I will not be able to give the next official headcount report until Monday evening.
For those who have not registered and who are still planning on attending, I would do that now. It looks like if I get another 7 who want bunk space that will be it. At that point I will have to cut it off. Your only option then will be to tent camp, or stay in an rv or camper. Note too that there are no longer any additional 30 amp outlets left for those in rv's or campers as that limit has been reached. Additionally if you elect to stay in your vehicle or you just say you will stay in your vehicle you are subject to the day use fee as is anyone just coming in for a day and maybe part of a night.
Your registration fee goes to the DSSG to cover our expenses including prizes and other annual costs.
Your bunk fee, tent fee and rv and camper fee goes to Carol at White Horse to cover her expenses, basically power and facilities maintenance. So even if not in a bunk, tent, rv or camper you still have the day use fee in lieu of those other fees. It has been a very tough year for White Horse, the small Spring Scrimmage back in May and now the DSSG in November has been it. No other income so we need to support her so she can host us.
Door Prizes - as always we will have one door prize each afternoon at 3 pm. On Friday and Saturday we will award multiple prizes at 3 pm. Due to COVID I elected not to contact the 5 companies that normally support us as the DSSG is much smaller this year. All other events post national shutdown have been cancelled except for the El Dorado Star Party earlier in October. Their attendance was about 75. Hopefully 2021 will see a return to normal.
We do have some prizes previously purchased and what gets awarded will be determined by how much registration money we take in. Prize value will be a little bit less that registration receipts, so figure that the total value of prizes will be close to $400. Prizes may additionally include some donations. Without getting too specific the prizes this year will include some new ExploreScientific eyepieces, as well as some Apache cases, some donated books and a few other odds and ends.
Best of luck to everyone in the path of Hurricane Zeta!
