If we can have a Deep South Spring Scrimmage the dates that I will try to obtain will be Thursday, May 2nd to Sunday, May 5th, 2019; so hopefully 3 nights under dark moonless skies at White Horse.
The reason for the May dates over the April dates are that -
1) This is about the time that we typically hold the Spring Scrimmage (later half of April to early May)
2) These dates do not conflict with the Mid South Star Gaze held at French Camp (about 80 miles north of Jackson, MS, just off the Natchez Trace). Note that anyone having a date conflict with early May who would prefer early April dates should consider attending the Mid South Star Gaze at French Camp .
3) A selfish reason but a very logical reason for me - my wife is a CPA, and early April will be crunch time for her with Susan working long days and we have a dog who is very needy in her old age. I would literally be in the dog house with an early April Spring Scrimmage. As I am the point person for the Spring Scrimmage and the DSSG, it really has to be the later dates unless there is a very compelling reason to chose the earlier dates.
4) The later dates work out better for viewing the Omega Centaurus Globular Cluster (NGC 5139) at a more reasonable time.
All of this being said, the May dates still need to be secured. I know we will not have the numbers that White Horse wants for a reservation so we will have to hope that we can get a reservation. It could be one that we will have to share with another group. If we do I do not think that will be much of an issue. We will have to pay full fare for bunk space, either $35 per night or perhaps $30, but most likely $35. We will also be restricted to likely one bunk house. We may be on our own for meals except for maybe an evening snack bar. However if we do a late morning/early afternoon meal at the Country Diner followed by burgers and dogs via an evening snack bar, I think we will be ok.
More news as I have news to report.
