The DSSG and the Spring Scrimmage both!
Years ago we did have film/emulsion based photo contests at the DSSG with winners in different categories determined via popular vote.
With the advent of newer technology employing dedicated cameras such as ZWO type imagers and DSLR cameras results are easy to obtain and process. We have to work out the details of any contest(s) that we do but basically any imager is free to submit any image or images that they do while attending that DSSG or Spring Scrimmage for judging. Images will be transferred into one PowerPoint or equivalent for projection and judging.
Each image should be accompanied by a standard information sheet that we can all have a part in developing. Completed for each image, it will be photographed and incorporated into the picture show immediately after the photo is displayed. Not so much considered in evaluating the merits of the photo but more so to answer any questions that someone may have about the photos.
Data sheets should include:
Object Name, When Taken, Date and Time, Equipment used - scope, mount, imaging system, number of stacked exposures, length of exposure per image, number of images in the stack, etc. I think such a data sheet should already exist and we should feel free to find it and borrow it.
Judging to be done by those watching the show. Judging sheets to be handed out. As said, all images taken that week at either the DSSG or Spring Scrimmage, during the week of the contest.
Categories - Planetary, Deep Sky. (we can separate stacked or single image or we can combine). This might have to evolve.
Awards - certificates, plaques, ribbons. This has to be decided. Amount of participation is a factor.
Comments? Suggestions?
