The "Field Rules and Regulations" form has been revised and is now available for everyone's review. Some key points - 1) For those that are new to astronomy or to organized star parties - there are rules that need to be followed so that all attendees can have a great time. An event like the Deep South typically attracts close to 100 attendees and in past years was often on the north side of 150 attendees. 2) Our location is dark and thus we all will become more dark adapted than what you will find in your yard or even at most observing locations including our own club observing site, SPMOS. 3) Due to our numbers and the proximity of all to each other we have to follow some rules. Most important are lights concerning use of lights and shielding of light. All of this is covered in the attached form. 4) One thing that is new to the form is some specifics regarding the shielding of laptop computer screens which some people use on the field, either to have a virtual star atlas and/or for telescope control and photography. The regulations that are on the form are very similar to rules in place at the Texas Star Party and Okie-Tex. Additionally I sought advice from others who have attended a number of Deep South Star Gazes for their recommendations and opinions on wording. What we have, we believe, is fair, reasonable and workable. Please read before you attend so there will be no surprises. Any questions, let me know. Barry Simon, Director Deep South Star Gaze
