Ok, here is the change, followed by the reason why -
9. Further, the White Horse Christian Retreat Camp has a prohibition against firearms. They are not to be brought on the property by any group or group registrant. An appropriate sign will be posted at the front entry to the property. Any registrant of the Deep South Star Gaze displaying, holstering or concealing a firearm on their body on site will have to leave and will be banned from registering and attending any future Deep South Star Gaze or Deep South Spring Scrimmage. No exceptions and no second chances.
We are not so naive to believe that we do not have attendees come to either the Deep South Star Gaze or to the Spring Scrimmage that have a firearm for personal protection in their vehicle. If that is true that is where the gun should stay "Quietly". We have had an issue with an attendee that believes he is within his rights to carry a gun on his person both outside and inside the main building and the bunkhouses. This was discussed with him in the past and he said he would keep the gun in his vehicle. That did not happen during the recent DSSG in spite of the previous discussion and promise. He was told in clear terms that he had to go put his gun up and secure it.
I learned later from another attendee that the gun was seen on his person two days later after our quite verbal discussion. I have now added the wording (#9 above) to the Observing Field Rules page and to our Liability Waiver form. No more chances, if he or anyone else does not like this mandate - go somewhere else. If he or anyone else violates this mandate, he or she will be forced to leave and will be forever banned from attending the Deep South Star Gaze or the Deep South Spring Scrimmage.
Enough said.
