Something like this was said by Matthew Broderick when he got off of the troop train for military training in the movie "Biloxi Blues". Don't be discouraged by the weather though, it will change and we will likely see some moderation in a few weeks.
I do have to admit that if the DSSG was to be held as early as we had it last fall (before mid-October) I would be mildly concerned at this point, but we have a later start this year due to the Moon phase dates in October and November. The additional delay of 3 weeks will, at least statistically help with the temperature. Some of you may even complain that you are too cold at the DSSG between November 6th and the 11th. On average for those dates we should see temperatures in the upper 40's/low 50's for our low temperatures and to the upper 70's for our high temperatures. We will know more about what to expect when we are about 5 to 7 days out from the start of the DSSG.
Cardinal rule is to expect the best but be prepared for the worst or "it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it."
One advantage of a later start is that being on the other side of the time change, we are back on standard time and sunset will be earlier, about 5:30 pm. You can start observing earlier and Orion and other later night constellations will be visible a lot sooner. 3 weeks later plus back on standard time plus the lower horizon line and you will be pleasantly surprised as to how soon these areas of the sky become visible. Can't wait!
